Purpose and outcomes: Nduli is a community struggling with low employment, particularly among the youth. Department of Rural Development and Land Reform (DRDLR) , RSA government, has funded the establishment of a greenhouse agribusiness to tackle this problem. The business will supply high value fresh produce, such as sweet peppers and tomatoes, to the local market intially, and as it grows in size and confidence will look to supplying retailers. The business will rolled out over three years under the mentorship of ASNAPP. The project was officially opened on 6th May 2014 by the Deputy Minister of DRDLR.
Year 1 - Progress
- 7 x 300 sqm tunnels have been erected under the supervision of ASNAPP with people from the local community of Nduli.
- Crops are grown hydroponically in coconut husk using an automated irrigation system with fertiliser injection.
- 5 youth employed from Nduli, 4 of the youth are graduating from the NARYSEC youth program.
